Numbers are information, too

“PPG Says U.S. Attorney’s Office Investigating Paint Giant’s Accounting Practices,” The Wall Street Journal, January 18, 2019.  The government is looking at potentially irregular accounting practices, again, after having looked at them in 2017.

Sarbanes Oxley generate a whole bunch of activity around financial controls and the preservation of financial information. But is “financial information” a subset of “information” or of “financial”?  Do the information folks bring anything to that party?  An organization’s information crosses all boundaries, as do an organization’s governance and compliance activities.

Where do these all come together, or are they now and shall they remain ever disparate?  What are the shared commonalities?
