How much money in the data mine? $47.5 million.

That’s how much Twitter made from selling “its” data on insights and trends.  Mainly through four companies.

Social data analytics — big business.  Great for monitoring customer complaints (DirecTV) and get pre-breaking news alerts on market moving developments (Dataminr), or where to send help during Hurricane Sandy.

So, that’s how much timely access to your data is worth.  To Twitter.  Are newspapers dead? TV news?  Twitter’s data business grew 53% over the last year.
